Discdish.com Asks Mothers Their Favorite Films
Surprise! Moms like action and war movies too

AUSTIN, TX, May 07, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- With Mother's Day on Sunday, the editors of DVD and Blu-ray website DiscDish.com didn't want to celebrate by guessing which films mothers might like best. Instead, they're asking mothers what they really like to watch — and so far, the films have some surprises.

Nine DiscDish.com writers asked their mothers to reveal their three favorite films and explain why. Interestingly, all the moms chose different movies. As expected, many of the moms picked romantic comedies, such as 1999's "Notting Hill" and 1942's "Once Upon a Honeymoon," and romance films, including 1965's sweeping epic "Doctor Zhivago" and 1987's "Dirty Dancing."

But whereas action films and war movies are usually reserved for Father's Day, DiscDish.com found them in the favorite movie lists of their Moms. For example:

• Action film "Goldfinger" (1964), with Sean Connery playing the handsome British secret agent

• Crime movie "Dirty Harry" (1971), with Clint Eastwood getting the bad guys with a curious smile and a big gun

• World War II drama "Edge of Darkness" (1943), in which a village in Norway takes on the Nazis

• Fantasy "The Lord of the Rings Trilogy" (2001-2003), Peter Jackson's adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's books

DiscDish.com is asking all mothers to stop by and share their favorite films.

DiscDish.com's Mother's Day list is part of the column called Today's Special, in keeping with the website's movie diner theme. In Today's Special, the DiscDish.com editors dish on the latest in pop culture, with a DVD and Blu-ray spin.

Launched in February 2010, the fast-growing DiscDish.com was created by veteran home entertainment editors Samantha Clark and Laurence Lerman, formerly of "Video Business" magazine, the home entertainment sister publication of "Variety." Together with the website's expert DVD and Blu-ray reviewers, the DiscDish.com staff has more than 50 years experience in the movie industry. The site is different from other movie and home entertainment websites in that it not only covers all the biggest mainstream films on disc, it also is a curator of the best in indie and cult films.

DiscDish.com also features interviews with the talents behind the scenes and in front of the camera, including actors, directors and writers, and runs regular contests and giveaways for new and classic DVD and Blu-ray releases.
