Kino Open Air features a series of films screened to the public in one of Munich's central squares this July.

MUNICH, GERMANY, June 02, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- People staying in Munich hotels this summer will have a chance to enjoy some of their favourite films while sunning themselves in the Konigsplatz.

Returning for its 16th season this year, Kino Open Air presents a week-long series of public movie screenings in one of the German city's most famous neo-classical squares.

The programme begins on Tuesday July 20th and will run until the following Tuesday, with tickets due to go on sale in June.

Some of the year's top movies are expected to be shown, including James Cameron's 3D blockbuster Avatar, Inglourious Basterds by Quentin Tarantino and Sex and the City 2.

As well as new Hollywood productions, the line-up for Kino Open Air traditionally features classic movies and short films.

There are also magicians and other entertainers in the Konigsplatz during the event to add to the fun, with plenty of food and drink stalls to keep movie-goers refreshed.

Sponsored by movie channel TNT, the film series is organised by Munich event agency GRAL.

Manager Alexander Wolfrum explained that Kino Open Air should also appeal to environmentalists, as the event is taking steps to minimise its carbon footprint this year.

"The focus is for us ... to actively minimise pollutant emissions and energy consumption," he said.

"As a direct consequence of climate change, the prices of the rain interruption insurance for our open-air event grow every year."

Standard tickets for films at Kino Open Air are priced at EUR9 (GBP7.65), while lawn seats are available for EUR7.50.

Movie enthusiasts visiting the city this year may also be planning to attend the Munich Film Festival, which runs from June 25th to July 3rd.

Commenting on Kino Open Air, Jessica Reading, head of marketing for LateRooms, said: "We strongly urge people thinking of going to Kino Open Air and who need hotels Munchen to book early to avoid disappointment."
