LateRooms.com - Enjoy Lights and Music at Vivid Sydney
Numerous city landmarks will be illuminated as part of this year's Vivid Sydney festival.
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, May 11, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- One of Sydney's most unique public events is due to get underway later this month.
Described by its organisers as "a festival of light, music and ideas", Vivid Sydney is comprised of a series of individual events, many of which are free to attend.
The festival begins with the Lighting of the Sails on May 27th, when the famous exterior of the Sydney Opera House will be illuminated in spectacular fashion.
In 2009, this event was curated by legendary music producer Brian Eno and attracted more than 200,000 visitors.
People using hotels in Sydney during this year's Lighting of the Sails can look forward to Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson putting their own stamp on the Opera House.
Reed and Anderson are co-curators of Vivid Live, a two-week programme of music, film, visual arts and theatre performances taking place as part of the festival.
The schedule includes appearances from Japanese experimental rock band Boris, upcoming US songwriter Holly Miranda and Reed's own Metal Machine Trio.
Vivid Sydney runs until June 21st, with other planned events including Macquarie visions, a theatrically-lit tour around the historic buildings of the city's Macquarie Street.
The programme also includes Song Summit, a music industry conference taking place at the Sydney Convention Centre from June 19th to 21st.
