Film Fans Gather for Tropfest in Sydney
New Australian film-makers will be debuting their work at Tropfest in Sydney on February 21st.
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, January 20, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- One of the most highly-regarded events in the Australian cultural calendar is set to take place in Sydney next month.
Tropfest is the world's largest short film festival and admission is free, with over 150,000 people enjoying the event at The Domain in Sydney's Royal Botanic Gardens last year.
As well as live music and other entertainment, the festival features a showcase of 16 short films that have selected by the judges from over 600 entries.
All movies are created specially for the event and must include what is known as a Tropfest Signature Item, which for this year's festival will be "dice".
Founded by actor and film director John Polson in 1993, the first ever Tropfest took place at the Tropicana Cafe in the Darlinghurst area of Sydney.
However, thanks to technology and expansion of the festival over the years, it is not just local people and those booking Sydney hotels who can enjoy the event nowadays.
Live satellite links mean that film fans in Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and several other Australian cities can also get involved.
This year's Tropfest takes place on Sunday February 21st, with the gates opening at 12:00pm local time.
